Journey to Ireland

We started off on the 23rd of December. My parents arrived at my apartment to pick me up. For some reason they were under the impression that I had their passports... : ) After driving back out to Dorr to pick up the passports we headed to Detroit Metro. We ended up getting to the airport about a half an hour later than expected, but managed to get on the plane just before they closed the doors.

The flight was the best! We flew Lufthansa to Frankfurt, then Dublin. I have to say that the International flights certainly have not lost the glamour that used to be associated with flying.

On the flight I sat next to Nick, a U of M grad student on his way to Germany to see his family for Christmas. I watched "Julie & Julia"--which reminded me that blogging would be a good way to capture the details of our trip & that I had only had oatmeal for breakfast and was starving. I also watched an episode of "Monk". This made me feel good about myself since there was a man sitting diagonal to me that was too sick to be flying but was toughing it out anyway. All I could think to myself was that I wanted to bathe in anti-bacterial gel and then into a bubble. After that I began watching "Up" which I loved, but didn't get the chance to see the last 30 minutes of it due to the flight ending. By then, Nick's Valium had worn off and he was getting anxious due to a fear of flying...that was kind of entertaining too!

Once we arrived in Dublin, we went through customs and collected our luggage...well, mine & my dads. My moms luggage was lost and at this point still is...I will update the good news as soon as I have it! (Thank you Shari for the recent lost luggage story of yours that I've told for positive reassurance.)

Lessons learned so far:
International Flight carry-ons may not exceed 18 lbs (so you might as well bring a big bag & check it.)
Passports are of utmost importance.
